Spark plug experiment
Did an ohms check on the newly received coils: Primary (low voltage) 0.7 - 0.8 ohms, Secondary (HV) 14.0 - 16.0 kohms.
Does anybody know what the ohm specs are for stock coils?
By the way, one of the four coils read infinite ohms on the HV coil. Email message to the vendor this morning, waiting to hear about replacement. Also one had a plastic chip during shipping that looks superficial. The laminations are not welded at the joints. So, visual quality is not great. Checked on-line reviews, though for other makes/models, and people seem to love these coils.
Let me know the ohm specs as soon as possible. I'll write more after install and trial runs.

Still waiting for the replacement coils (first set came with 1 of 4 defective). Vendor was very responsive and offered a new set, but have not arrived yet.
Thinking about GEMs with the wasted spark set up. The spark actually jumps two gaps at once on a GEMs engine, so a larger gap might be more difficult than with the 14CUX (single fire spark plugs, not wasted spark). Even so, I am running 0.054 gaps now with the old stock coils and its running great.
I have some injector work to do when I replace the coils, so it may be a little while before I test out the new set up.

The Performance Distributors website says these things are for the later model GEMS engines so let's see if it actually makes any difference. Im happy to be a guinea pig, just need to find the time to install everything...
Can you explain the "jump two gaps" on the GEMS? I've never heard of that. Are you saying the plug sparks twice?

The folks at Performance Distributors sent me a couple replacement coils free of charge. Got them wired up now ready to install.
Cleaning up a rusty fuel rail, and will install 4-hole injectors with 3 bar fuel pressure regulator (decided against putting it onto the '94). Hopefully will get it all back together by next week.

My favorite is NGK V-Power BPR6EY nickle tipped. Very close second is NGK G-Power BPR6EGP platinum fine wire. Excellent quality and don't break the bank.
Right now running Bosch 4306 Platinum +2 with dual ground electrodes, surface discharge technology, that come with a fixed gap out the box. Autolite and Champion make fine plugs as well. For short drives, maybe go one heat range higher than OEM specified.
