Default Spyder box missing

96 4.0 v8

I dug into the dash today to find no Spyder Box where it should be. From what I have read it seems that 98 and on dont have them. Could my 96 be that exception or could it be somewhere else? Please any ideas could help! Thanks

Is the Spyder box the green alarm ECU? If so, 98' and 99' have them as I just parted 2 out.

None on my 97 either. Build date is 96 so maybe you got a late 96 build. spyder box is behind the radio.

I've torn apart well over 100 NAS DI's and have NEVER seen this mythological spyder box. I love it when I read post about people with NAS DI's who monkeyed with theirs to get their DI sorted. Maybe in other parts of the world this mythical spyder box rests mysteriously behind the radio but not on North American Spec DI's.

I think we need to get SNOPES.com involved or perhaps the TV show Mythbusters.

Oh, wait, I think I once heard about a very special "Dragon Box" lurching behind the motor in DII's. When the dragon breathes fire your cylinder sleeves all drop at the same time!!!!!

For anyone looking to replace a D1 spider box: I have 3 spares for sale/trade. Please also PM me if also interested in Ocean-front prop in AZ.

If you own an NAS DI YOU DO NOT HAVE A SPYDER. I don't care if you have a '96 or later or a '95 or '94. You DO NOT HAVE A SPYDER.

1) The part for sale on the Rovers North Catalog, AMR4956 is for the 300 Tdi. It says so right on the page.

2) Savannah Buzz's link to where the spyder is located is for ROW (rest of the world) Rovers. It mentions Lo, Mid and High line radios. The NAS DI only had one radio and it was a premium radio. The page that link is for is not an NAS DI. It is for a ROW DI.

3) His second link is one I am having trouble finding. I'd love to know exactly which manual it is from. I'll bet dollars to donuts that schematic is not for an NAS DI.

4) Anitchrists link is to someone with a 300 Tdi, not an NAS DI.

5) Click on NabisOne's link to Rovers North and again, it lists the part for a 300 Tdi harness!

6) GPRtech, I'd love to see some real evidence that NAS DI's had the spyder up through 1996 and that is was mysteriously dropped in 1997.

7) I truly feel for all you guys who either bought that part from Rovers North and wasted your money or tore apart your dash like JPSpen in a futile attempt to find a part that was never there.

Well, sort of.

'97 and on vehicles had the spyder(YWC105830), the harness (AMR4956) is just a bypass harness for the system, offered as an "upgrade" from Land Rover, and was listed for the 300tdi.

We've sold 24 in the last 2 years, 3 were returned for various reasons(possibly didn't have a spyder or whatever...)

There are some oddities but basically yes, the spyder was fitted to later NAS vehicles, appears 97 on (VIN VA). The harness we sell bypasses it.

I stand by my belief that this is no more than the Loch Ness Monster of NAS DI's.

Where on your attachment is the Spyder or the bypass you sell for it? Sorry, I don't buy it.

YWC105830 IS NOT A SPYDER. It is the same green alarm ECU as all the other prior numbers. I have one here at my shop. I'll load a photo tomorrow of the alarm ecu but in the meanwhile you can see it on countless eBay auctions here:

So, Zack, that part number is not for a spyder and the part you sell to bypass it will not fit. I don't know who bought the 24 units you sold, maybe they were for 300Tdi owners, but they weren't for YXC105830.
