Show me the NAS part number for the spyder that mounts behind the radio. All you've given me so far are the part number for the alarm ecu and the bypass. Something's still missing.

While I'm thinking about it, the Rovers North listing is not only for 300 Series DI's but also mentions RRC's. How could this bypass that would work on '94 and '95 DI's and "94 and '95 RRC's have anything to do with a GEMS alarm ecu for late '97-'99 DI's?

Sorry Zach, you're defending sitings of the Loch Ness Monster.

Well, I guess there's a lot of 300tdi d1s in the states

But I suppose I'll look into it more tomorrow.

Do you have the spyder part number?

And YXC105830 isn't a part number as far as I can see.

Excuse the typo, it's YWC105830 not YXC105830. That's the part number in the attachment you listed that you claim, uniquely, uses the Spyder on NAS DI's from 1997-1999. All it is is another green alarm ECU just like all the other part numbers listed on that attachment for NAS alarm control units.

I'm telling you there is no way a part designed to work with the alarm system found in 300Tdi DI's and RRC's from '94-'95 is going to work in an NAS GEMS '97 or later DI.

I bet RN sold the bulk of the 24 units online to people who have been misled about the existence of this Spyder here in the US thanks to all the bull**** about it on boards like this one. You have JPSpen who bought one and can't use it. Maybe he'll return it, maybe not. For some people it may simply be too much of a bother to return a $20 part. They'll just chalk it up to experience.

From a post on Dweb.

"Yeah, the dealer here was clueless, too, even with the part number. Then they searched some other parts list and found it, but it wasn't available to US buyers. They used a strange term (that I have forgotten) about only being available to Rovers in Europe, not the North American market."

They seem to have figured it out over on that board. A search for "Spyder" and "Discovery" will turn up enough information from NAS DI owners to debunk this ridiculous myth I've seen posted on this board for years.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

From what my searches can find, the illusive Spyder is part # AMR4889 which was superseded with YWJ500020. Any and all links I found associated these parts with DI's equipped with 300Tdi's. Again, not for NAS DI's.

I'm inclined to agree with you. To be honest before this thread I had never heard of the spyder unit, and two people here were under the impression that it was fitted after 96.

The one thing I will say, is that it was also fitted to Defender 300tdis, which is likely the reason we sell a number of these bypass harnesses.

I won't decide either way until I actually rip one apart, but I will leave this image up for people to make their own conclusions. First is NAS, second is ROW.

Zack,
#11 is the spyder. AMR4889 and it is ONLY on ROW Discovery models. I have yet to find a single reference to this part on NAS trucks, anywhere.
Cheers,
Paul
