Default SRS light

Just got my truck back from my son who has been driving it for a few months, and the SRS light is staying on. 1997 Disco1 with 165K miles ABS light has been on since I disconnected the pump hen I couldn't stop one day.

My son is pretty much a put the key in and go kind of driver. Only puts gas in when it is empty, figures it will tur on a light when it is out of oil, etc. Truck is a trashed out mess inside with food wrappers , pop containers , etc and smells like an overflowing ashtray. i guess I will be fumigating it and cleaning it out when it stops raining out

Just wondering if there is maybe a plug under the seat that is disconnected or something easy?? Otherwise it is back to the RAVE manuals for some circuit tracing.

And I am hiding the keys from now on!!

Probably a sensor connection up front on the frame, both rails. Check the connections, maybe a squirt of CRC electronics spray. Check fuses in knee box.

Thanks! I'll give it a try if it stops raining tomorrow. Hope that is all it is!

fuses checked out OK, wiring looked good along rail on both sides , could it be a connector under the pass seat? got a bunch of stuff stored under there..trailer hitch stuff is under drivers seat so maybe...

Will it reset on it's own or do I need to use a scanner or SRS?? hard to tell on a 1997 computer system.

The SRS controller is under the console, wires to the controller run under console too.

Everything seems to check out, light is still on. Do I need to reset the light with a scan tool? I don't believe my tool will handle the ABS or SRS codes Autel Maxiscan MS509 I didn't need the extra stuff when I got it, I should have spent the extra bucks I guess.

needs a scan tool, and on a d1 the airbag communication pin is separate from the engine ecu comm pin on the obd2 plug unlike newer vehicles, so a generic scan tool that claims to do airbag resets is very unlikely to work on a d1.

If someone has a scan tool that does this and wants to lend it to me I'd be open to creating a program to reset it similar to the one I made for the GEMS resets.

jimvw57, did you ever sort this out? My SRS light now stays lit and the second S in SRS flashes for around 5 minutes and then SRS becomes solid.

How did you get yours reset?

94-95 14CUX = different SRS ECU with separate diagnostic lead. 96-99 T4/Lynx/Hawkeye can read the OBD2 stored faults.

My 96 SRS has been active since I got the truck 10 years ago. I assume the air bags will still deploy in a crash. Does anyone know if this is true?
