still searching for a disco ... may have found it
So if anyone remembers, I missed out on a good lookin 1998 disco a few weeks ago, but I've still been on the lookout. Just found a 1994 disco that was bought new by a land rover mechanic and he had to get rid of it this past march. It has 182,000 miles! The new owner has decided he wants to part with it as he decided he doesn't really need it. There are 3 known problems: 1) needs a new park pawl installed (but comes with the part), 2) the e-brake needs adjusting (i know ... sort of a dangerous combination), and 3) the front door latches are hit or miss and need to replace or have linkage repaired. Here's what the original owner did has replaced/modified:
- Top and Bottom half of motor rebuilt approx. 10K miles ago
- New electric fans on front of radiator
- New Brake Caliper (Right Rear...I think it was, you'll see that it looks newer than the other)
- Detroit Locker (Rear) Installed
- RoverTym Slim-line Front Bumper
- Safari Guard Drive-shaft protector
- Safari Guard Front Dif. Guard
- Rockware Tie-rod guard
- Genuine British/NATO Military Steel Wheels
- Rover Club House Rock Sliders
- Heavy(ier) Duty Solid Drive Shaft
- Old Man Emu HD Shocks/Springs
- Old Man Emu (relocated) Steering Damper
- Installed the Multi-disk CD Player (under driver's seat)
- New Radiator
- All New Cooling Hoses (fairly recently)
- Water Pump
- Fan belt
- Thermostat
- Fuel Filter
- Oil/Filter regularly
- K&N Air Filter
- Self-installed "Line-X" type floor liner in rear of truck
- Viscous Coupling for Engine Fan
- Oxygen Sensors
- Catalytic Converters
- Transmission Filter changed
- Factory Recall completed on the Fuel Tank (the dealership removed old metal tank and installed a new plastic tank)
- New Mass Airflow Meter
- Belt Tensioner
- Alternator
- Starter
- Spark plugs
- Replaced Left Rear Axle Seal
- Changed Radiator Cap out from plastic to New Brass Plug
- Replaced (3) Transmission Lines
- Replaced (4) Tie-rod ends
- Replaced Engine Mounts
- Replaced Front Crank Seal
- Replaced Vacuum Advance
- Radiator Reservoir
My question ... what do you think a fair price for it is? I'm going to drive it late this afternoon.

Just remember, normal maintenance does not make a vehicle more valuable. Aftermarket parts do not increase the value by the amount spent on the parts. If you dump $5k on a $2k car, you still have a $2k car.
he's asking $3,500 ... I think it's high for a 94 with 182,000, but then again it has a lot of upgrades and the whole motor was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago. My main concern I guess is the tranny (I think it's still original), and the parking pawl issue. Anyone have any instructions for installing a new pawl (I'd imagine it's fairly labor intensive).
2 things.
1)Does it have documentation for the total motor rebuild?
2) even if that thing dies tomorrow you could part it out for over 3500
I dont know who's rack that is, it's ugly as sin, but someone would pay for it. Youve been on here a while, and both the discos you brought us have been good. What did you learn from the first one? If you like it F'ing BUY IT. dont sleep on it.
good luck.

If you buy that disco we will have to meet and do some wheeling, i will be moving up to greenville next week from clemson. You should know there is also a pretty nice Range Rover classic lwb for sale on the motor mile, i saw it on thursday and had to stop by and drive it. Beware though, the owner of the lot is Eastern European, maybe a gypsy, i was afraid i was going to have to buy something to leave the lot
