Default This is a STRANGE ONE - I think ??

All of a sudden my key won't turn the drivers door lock to activate the central locking system ( when you turn it left it is hard to turn and will only turn part way left and won't activate the lock and alarm system )and also my (I left on the lights beep beep beep warning) is not working - also noticed my left the key in ignition reminder beep is also not working

all lights work - the doors will all central lock if you are inside the vehicle and my alarm light is normal on the radio

I checked all the fuses inside and in engine compartment - all is well

ANY THOUGHTS ?? HEAD STUMPER . . .

My driver door keys turn harder than I like. Probably lubrication would help (would need door panel removed), but I rarely lock up so I don't notice much.

The ignition switch mechanism has a little lever and microswitch for key-in sensing. That lever can wear or need lubrication, or the key can get worn.

Lights-on warning depends on the door switch (little black plunger on the pillar), which connects to ground when the door is open. Does your overhead light turn on when the door opens? The wire broke on mine, so needed fixing, forgot if I replaced the door switch or not, but new are easy to get.

It sounds like you have an old Land Rover. Keep calm and Rover on.

the fact that it all happened together means one thing must be causing the cascade - light does come on when door is open - things pretty well lubricated - something odd that they all happened at once

Maybe something wrong with the chime/beeper? The beeper pertains to key and lights warnings, not central locking. Might require electrical troubleshooting or tracing circuits to find the common denominator.

Driver's door key mechanism has several linkages. Maybe one is binding up or bent and not allowing enough travel to activate the locks. Not a huge task to remove the door panel to take a look, clean, lubricate, but not a lot of room in there.

JohnZo was a hundred % correct

All the issue were correct

The cascade was the weather

1) it caused an issue with the door switch - that caused an issue with lights on and key in ignition chimes - after a blast of electrical cleaner good as new
2) It caused an issue with the door lock - after lubricating good as new

All is well - lesson learned - a weather event caused it - go figure
