Stupid Lessons Learned
CDL
When laying under a 4500 lb vechicle, removing a driveshaft on a slight incline, lock the CDL to prevent the truck from rolling over you when you do finally get it unbolted.
RTV
Using a thin bead of RTV on the inlet manifold to intake manifold mating surfaces can results in a nearly inseparable bond. That's great if you never plan to replace your injector O-rings. No matter of pulling, prying, or pounding with a rubber mallet would release the bond between the two. I had to resort to using an engine crane to lift it off, nearly lifting the front end into a wheelie before violently separating. Inlet manifold went flying, but luckily nothing was damaged.
Remove battery terminal, specially when working with gasoline.
To replace the injector O-rings often causes gasoline to go everywhere. It also requires the use of a wrench, which if turned just right, will contact the positive terminal of the alternator and cause a 4th of July spark show. Fortunately in my case the Rover gods decided to not let the spark contact the nearby gasoline. Surely the part in the RAVE about removing the battery connections doesn't apply to me...

There was a woman on Car Talk a week or 4 ago, her husband forgot to set the parking brake on their 5-speed car and it rolled out of the garage, down a hill, across 4 lanes of traffic, jumped a bank and landed in a pond.
LOL!!! That would of been funny to hear. A few weeks ago a guy at the store forgot to set his park break and his 5 speed rolled out of the parking spot and into another car! The guy had a note on his windshield that read "set your break stupid" lol

2x on that.." a guy I know " had that happen, as my , errr his disco rolled off the ramps he got startled and attempted to sit up...cutting his head and shoulder and the vehicle came to rest using his glasses as the aforementioned wheel chock.

Sounds like an episode of 1000 ways to die.
I started throwing a couple of Belgium Blocks under my tires whenever I do anything on 'MEANDEROVER' to keep it from moving.
And I now remove the negative terminal as I have also shorted a wrench from the hot post to a ground.
It is amazing just how stupid one can be at times. Thanks for posting your mistakes as I do prefer to learn from the mistakes of others whenever possible. Just consider it as tuition toward your Masters In Rover Recovery. You already earned the BS degree.
Spike. You shoud start a "Don't Do this Collection" as a Sticky.

In Denver< I worked with a fellow from Jamaica who had never driven a car. He bought a 5 speed 300 ZX. The first day, he didn't know to leave it in gear and set the parking brake. It rolled a few hundred feet down a slight inline and the front of the car hit a pick up with the tailgate down, messing up the top of the Z car.
We told him to put it in reverse and set the brake. A few days later, we had severe ice. He parked in the same spot but facing the other direction. It slid down the hill on the ice and the rear of the car hit the same truck again with the tailgate down, messing up the rear of the Z car. We told him to trade the car as a five speed 300ZX was not the best choice for him to learn to drive.
