Default Stuttering when started

Well so far my 98 Disco has been running like a champ, after a new battery and alternator that is. Well today on my way to work I stopped and fueled up, using 91 as I always do, and continued on my way to work. After work I jumped back in the Disco and went to start it. It started up, stuttered for a second then died. Tried again with the same results. On the third attempt I gave it some gas on start up, lasted a bit longer, but still stuttered and died. So Im thinking my fuel pump just took a crap on me, cause it sounds like its not getting fuel. Any ideas?????

Could be. you can check for fuel at the rail, there should be as valve core you can press on, but have a rag covering it first, in case you've got plenty of pressure, you don't want to shoot fuel in your face or all over your engine.

Ill give this a try, does the key need to be in the on position to get power to the pump?

Ok, so I let it sit over night at work. Went to get it this morning and had my tool box with me just in case. Jumped in to try and start it and low and behold it started right up and drove home with out any issues. Im super puzzled now.

Not sure what hot you mean. Last night when I had the problem engine was cold and it was about 90 degrees out. This morning still cold engine and about 70 out. If its in relation to the outside temp then this is a new problem, its been in the middle 90's and havent had this happen.

OK so after a few days I was running fine. Now two days in a row its not starting. Got in it again after work last night and it wouldnt start, it tried but nothing, not even the stuttering I had before, just cranks and cranks. Come back in the morning and it fires right up. In the evening it was high 80's with engine cold, in the morning the temp is low 60's with engine cold. I checked the ohms at the ECT and EFT and both are were they should be. My next train of thought is the fuel pump, relays or crank shaft position sensor.

When he says hot he means when the engine is hot.
You must check your fuel pressure next time it happens.
If you dont you are wasting your time and money.
