Default T-stat

I was wondering if you guys could give me step-by-step instructions on how to change the thermostat on a 1996 land rover discovery. Illustrations would help, this is gonna be my first time attempting a repair on my own, so I'll def need someone to hold my hand. The dealership wanted to charge me 35 bucks for the t-stat plus 130 bucks for labor.

It is pretty easy. It is all in the RAVE manual. It is what the dealer uses. Free download in my sig..

Those are the parts you will need.
Have those first.
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator back to the top of the engine, you will find a ball with a neck on it looking thingy.
Remove it, you may need to gently tap it or pry it off with a screw driver.
Take a straight razor blade and scrap the engine and the goose neck clean and then rise with clean water and let dry.
TAKE NOTE of the direction the old t-stat is facing, install the new one the same way.
Install the new gasket, install the goose neck making sure you tighten the bolts equally.
If you tighten one side but not the other you can break the housing because it is aluminum.
Snug both bolts, top off with coolant, start the engine and check for leaks.
You may have to wait for the engine to get hot before any leaks show up.
If it leaks snug the bolts a little more.

That is correct, 195*F for the DI.
180*F for the DII as it has a smaller radiator.

We could use that to tease the DII section as well lol. "my radiator is bigger than yours" lol. Sorry I couldn't resist.
