The tale of 2 Rovers
Alright so Im new to all this but basically I've got 2 Discos to decide between. The first is a 1995 Discovery with a 5 speed manual and 3.9, it has been used a lot and the frame is rusty, I dont believe it is rotted. The body was rotted but the guy had done the rockers before it eventually was left to sit after a windshield crack, he suggested a body swap $800. The second is an auto with the same 3.9 but it has a 4inch lift, extended shock towers and a tom woods drive shaft and some slight rocker rot $2500. The second also comes with extra doors, fenders a hood and a bunch of other parts. Im a big fan of manuals and that has been a bit reason for wanting the first but Im just wondering if it is worth the price? I just found out the second will sell for 2000 without the hood and doors, Ill post pictures of both if I can get them.

Is it really that overpriced, he said he mainly is trying to get back the money he put in the parts and tires. I cant find many D1's in or around eastern NY. Any I've seen are either very nice and too much for me or... well they don't exist. Id really like to get a stick shift but the rarity and recent price increase has me back stepping. Im trying to find something for this spring and summer for camping and a bit of 4wheeling. Any ideas on a better way to look for them or find them, Im mostly on facebook/craigslist or Im just bombing around looking for them on the side of the road.

Seriously. Walk away - like Stillruns said. Run LF. Full transparency I do NOT know D1s but I do know LR and classic cars and you're setting yourself up for a world of disappointment and massive costs.
If they gave it to you for free it'd be a curse.
If you're on a limited budget, I'd suggest you have to be patient. E coast is hard because of the salt and damp. SW is far better but of course the vehicles cost more, but they do crop up. A D2 came up here maybe a month or so ago and was very reasonable, I think from TX. But don't throw your $ into a money pit like the thing above. It's a complete wreck. Better to wait and spend a little more on a vehicle that needs less work than to pick up a cheap dumpster that will take big money to put right.
Good luck.

My only issue is any southern D1 Ive found is way too much, up to the point where I could just go buy a land cruiser. D2s are really common up here but I've heard awful things regarding their reliability, and Im really looking for something to mainly off road with (other than the trip to wherever I do said off roading. I may just have to step away from land rovers for now. Also the one pictured runs and was inspected, I think he said he parked it when a brake got pinched or something similar. I understand it isnt near perfect but what are it's actual flaws. Other than the apparent body rot.

Thats a parts truck D1. Keep looking, be patient. Don’t jump the gun on these. They are still to be found but it takes looking every day almost. You may have to have one shipped from another state. If a D1 is what you are set on, and I understand that, be patient.
