I'm surprised at all of the anger. He hasn't said anything that we all don't joke about daily on these boards. Having said that the, "it's a jeep thing, you wouldn't understand" stickers really annoy me, as if a wrangler on 35`` is some head turning rare vehicle.
My D1 has way more personality, now if only I could get my back Windows to work...
Good luck with your new ride!

Eh, another non-listening, shallow end of the gene pool douchebag gallops off into the sunset.
On a separate but related note - a coworker has a spankin new jeep rubicon, and I went out and gave it a lookover in the parking lot yesterday.
I have nothing against jeeps but I was SHOCKED at the build/design quality. What a cheap *** pile of tinfoil and plastic!
Interior was pretty nice tho. heh...

Yes, the Cherokee series is NOT for serious wilderness travel - the lack of any differential lock (it does not even have a lock on the central differential, can you believe it) makes it get stuck in even little puddles of mud or any snow deeper than 5 inches. BUT - there may come a Toyota Landcruiser or Forerunner around to haul you out of the mud, and then you can go until you get stuck again.
Discovery Landrovers simply are too notoriously unreliable electric and electronic-wise that you also dare not go into the wilderness with it - despite the very good drive train design philosophy. As playthings, if you have a reliable vehicle to haul it and yourself home after the playing they are quite comfortable inside - but then I do not play - I bought my piece of junk D1 for traveling the outback of Colorado, Utah and Nevada. Now I can't even back it out of the driveway as it has been refusing to start the past month.
There is a thing like loyalty - but that emotion is earned. Landrover does not earn that loyalty and why a class action has never been started against the manufacturer is beyond me. Read the history of the totally arrogant, "What me worry?" attitude of Rover since the introducing and inner cutting into the V8i, and later the design faults in the R280 gear box, not to mention the unacceptable electronics quality.
My D1 here in Colorado is my third Landrover - after my two previous 110 Tdi models (direct UK imports) I in exasperation gave back to the dealer and got my money back, I promised myself never ever again. Then I allowed myself to get talked into this one by the previous owner who said that despite the oil puddles underneath it is a good runner. That was a lie as it is not even a bad runner. It is a no-runner. In the three months since I bought it I've had maybe a 20% start success.
We should not insult or belittle anyone on this forum who has seen the light after weighing the facts. It simply is NOT a reliable vehicle, no matter what the vintage or the model. Neither is the interior trim made and fitted with any quality control or assurance.
Never, ever again shall I be sweet-talked into any Rover product. I'll fix this D1 up and get rid of it - even if I must give it away.

..my Land Rover hates me but I still love it so..always will no matter how much it does or does not drag me thru the mud. It's within me - I'm a masochist
With that said, good luck to you RH69. Rovers apparently aren't your thing - nothing wrong with that.
Happy trails,

When my cars don't work I fix them. I usually don't whine about a malfunction or manufacturer. A D1 doesn't seem to me to be overly complicated. I've had lots of cars and trucks. Old. New. Imports. Domestic. From a 740il to 62 Scout.
All have had their issues. I see an issue and back up to what it takes to fix it. Electrical problems suck on all cars. And all cars have them. These aren't Hondas. They are higher maintenance than other vehicles yes. Hard to beat once you sort out the handful of smaller issues they have.
