Default TheGageinator's 1998 Disco thread

hello all! This is my 3rd Land Rover Discover I. By far the worst condition. It is a 1998 50th anniversary. it has 230k miles. i could not drive it home due to multiple issues. I was told that the head gaskets were done in the past. not sure when.

Radiator needs to be repaired. leaking driver side

bad break booster (heard vacuum leak inside booster and no power breaks)

Grinding noise on driver front rotor

AC not blowing cold Fixed! bad switches

valve covers leaking

valve train noise on driver side

leak on top of the timing chain cover maybe?

lots of cosmetic issues and a little bit of rust bubbling here and there

the ultimate goal is to get this vehicle running reliably for my wife to drive to work and back. She has a 2009 civic, but wants an 4x4 suv.

Yeah, that's a little rough. Given that you live in Texas, why does she want to drive a SUV and get 1/3-1/4 of the gas mileage of the Civic?

good luck. looks minty on the outside though, and you don't have to deal with rust like we do in the northeast.

Yes the outside just needs a good cleaning and some plastic restore.

My wife used to drive 120 miles a day for work. Now she only drives 20. The gas increase shouldn't be noticeable. So I agreed to find her another 4x4 suv

I fixed all my ac switches today. My snowflake , recirculation, and rear ac buttons were all not working.

The large trim piece I'm the center of the dash cracked in multiple places do I am waiting for the JB weld repairs to harden overnight. Will put all together tomorrow and have some cold air!

I also just ordered a used brake booster on ebay.

Went to clean my IAC and noticed that there was a paper gasket. Isn't there supposed to be an O-ring? I cleaned it and re-installed. I so had to replace a screw that was missing

Also, has anyone bypassed the throttle body coolant lines? I've done it lots of times on other vehicles. I live in nice warm Texas.
