Default Throttle Position Sensor Defect Found

So today as I was working on my next adventure, the TPS. I carefully removed all the components for inspection. Noticed some wear spots, but one which caused failure. This part was made with a flexxable copper contact which is used in determining the resistance value for position location. The copper was completly removed from one contact location. This caused failure. I have decided to reman this part useing a more economical and durable design. Take a look at the link with the photo. This picture is the flexxable contact. Notice the arrows and circle. These are the contact points that have been rubbed away and caused failure. I don't know about you, but I refuse to buy another inferior part that I can make better. This defect will cause erratic contact or complete failure as in mine. Giving the state of wear at this location on the contact strip will determine the level of failure. A new durrable contact strip will remove any problems associated with this part. I have found three areas on this contact strip alone that excessively show wear and has breaks in continuity. Hope to have a reman TPS available for everyone soon. Keep this in mind when trouble shooting stalling, RPM's ETC. ETC....

I Need a few more BAD/DEAD Throttle Position Sensors to continue my study. Willing to purchase them from anyone who has them. MUST BE BAD. https://landroverforums.com/forum/me...y2405-2817.jpg

LRD2, pics a bit blurry and hard to read. Post more though if you can do a step by step of how you're going to rectify the prob. Much thanks.

The words do explain more than the picture, sorry. However the problem can be corrected with a universal or newly built TPS. I'm in the process of locating a suitable match. I have found a few potentiometer's that show promising suitability. Most POTS cost around $5. Just would need to test it and cast a plastic housing. Looking to replace this $180 TPS for something around $25. Going to purchase the POTS I found so far and begin testing.

Airtex or Standard Motor Products TPS for the D1 is about $100
Of course, $25 would be even better.

If you don't mind sharing(for those of us that have no parts stores around)...where online can you buy those brands...?

(never mind, found them on Rock Auto.)

Unfortunetly those TPS's are the same construction. The contact strip wears away in erratic locations throughout the resistance strip. This is what causes engines to run rich, high, low and erratic RPM's and stalling. The resistance measured across this strip with breaks in it causes fluxxuating voltage signals to the ECU. Inferior design. There are many potentiometers out there with better designs and commonly have the same VDC requirements and signal range. They just need to be able to mount to the throttle body. Too easy, cast them in plastic and problem fixxed.

Well, this thread reminded me that I've been meaning to replace my TPS. So I just ordered one from Rock Auto for $97 shipped. If I could have bought one from you at $30+-, I would have ordered it over a year ago.
