I'm on my way to pick up that discovery. I was wondering if I put it on a toe dolly (front tires on trailer) should I disconnect the rear driveshaft or just put the transfer case in neutral?

 

Put the truck in neutral, make sure the parking brake is off and you can pull it forever.

Now, mind you the disco is to heavy for a Uhaul toe dolly, so if your planning on renting one you will have to lie... (tell them your towing a VW or something) Personally, I would go with the tow bar.

Buying a tow bar is actually cheaper than renting the dolly in a lot of cases at around 120 bucks new...

 

NOOOOOO!! You HAVE TO PULL THE REAR SHAFT!!! that or flat tow. Still put the t-case and tranny in N but pull that shaft. You will grenade your t-case.

 

I'll pull the driveshaft then. Funny you said that I was gonna tell them it was a vw beetle.

 

Correct sorry, I was referring to a flat tow with the tow bar I should have been more specific. If your going to tow with 2 of the wheels of the ground you must remove either the front or rear propeller shaft (depending on which wheels are on the trailer)

So for the front wheels off the ground remove the rear shaft.

Mark the drive flang at the trans case and the axels with lines so you can refit to the original position when your done.

Also, make sure you turn your key to release the steering wheel lock... don't forget to do this or you will break something the first corner you take. (most likely the steering linkage. )

Its not the going up thats the problem, its the coming back down.

 

I don't understand how it will grenade the center diff if it's in neutral.

 

I want to know who puts the grenades in the differentials to begin with?
