I own a 1998 Disco 1 and need to know if it is safe to tow a load weighing 3400 lbs. (trailer and cargo weight combined) I have a double axle enclosed trailer and no trailer brakes hooked up. Driving a distance of 100 miles, with a $10000 Can Am Commander as cargo, so some definite jack on the line here.....what do you think is this a bad idea?

 

The RAVE manual set includes the owner manual. From that we have:

Maximum permissible tongue weight .................... 330 lb (150 kg

So hook up the trailer brakes..... it is important to note that your insurance policy might go ***** if your were not following established procedures. Most small trailers are insured by the tow vehicle, check with your agent to be sure.

 

Most state laws require trailer brakes for that weight anyway.
Hooking up trailer brakes isn't a major undertaking anyway.
