transmission doesnt want to go into high gear
I got my Disco 1 back from transmission swap. It doesn't want to go into high gear. It shifts finally at around 3200-3500 RPM. I goggled this and ran across a forum post of someone that had same issue and his was the transfer case was locked into low. So I'm thinking maybe somehow when they were working on it they moved it. I put it in neutral and tried shifting the lever. It doesn't move forward or backwards.
Is there a trick to shifting it from low to high that I am missing or should it be shifting? Sorry if this is a stupid question I'm full of them lately!

That could be the problem, but...
Have you checked the kickdown cable? It adjusts the shift points based on the throttle position. If they changed the trans they had to remove the cable and might have not adjusted it properly.
Look at the throttle cable, just below it is the kickdown cable. Adjust in small increments and see if it helps.

That's the detent cable
If it were in low trust me you would know it
If they fixed the CDL shifter and it will not go into low the solonoid on the transfer case is probly stopping it
When I went to bigger tires it made the trans take longer to shift into overdrive not sure rpm but around 50 MPH?

So, it seems the cable has three names here on the forum:
detent cable
kick down cable
throttle pressure cable
Regardless of what it's called, it would seem that it controls the shift points. I have never messed with it, but I am going to next on my truck as it shifts hard at a higher RPM than I want.

I would clean all the grounds where they go to body and frame from battery before dropping $ on an alt. Throw a meter on the batt see out put with engine running
Abran they are called different things on different cars so yes semantics, USA cars it is detent
Not sure on this trans what it does, some cars it does control shift points, some cars it only controls the kickdown at wide open throttle like you are trying to pass another car or something
