I assumed the D1 used the dipstick tube to fill tranny. Since it does not show one on the breakdown.

That would pertain to any DI with automatic transmission.

IIRC your filler is on the right side of the transmission. I have a couple of R380 transmissions here that have been partially disassembled but I remember that's where the filler was on my old LT77.

I guess you already sorted it out thanks to previous posts. I liked your one comment about how similar but not similar the DI and DII are. I remember a Land Rover ad that touted over 720 differences between the old Series 1 and the new Series 2. Now, with an R380 you have even more differences. Whenever looking for advise or help with your DI you always have to preface your question with a statement about it being a 5 speed. I learned that with my '85 Range Rover.

Just an update for future viewers.
The transmission fill plug on these 5 speeds also known as R380 can be removed with a size 55 Torx socket.

The drain plug is a 32mm. Its tight so I used a 32mm speed wrench.

Fluid: Redline MTL 70W80 or 75W/85

Ya that’s what I thought too!
I spend a bit of time on the site searching and it appears Land Rover sent out an update saying to switch to MLT.

AntiChrist confirmed this in an older post:
