Unhappy trouble getting codes with memoscan u381

I got this a few days ago and I really need to pull the codes on my 96 disco but I cant for the life of me get it to uplink. the reader appears to be working fine and I checked my fuses on the inside of the vehicle. The distributor told me about three things to try and that it should work for me but none of them did. any ideas I can send it back for a refund I just didn't want to pay 130 at the parts store and I need those codes. please help if you have had this problem.

Autozone pulls codes for free.

Ha. Yeah. That's a good point. There are a bunch of reason it could be running roughly. I don't want to mis diagnose without knowing more I'lleave the diagnosing to the pros but def don't drive it if it's not safe.

ok so I jumped in and drove it about a mile away spitting and sputtering died on me twice had to sit at the lights on foot on the gas one on the break so it would not die. auto zone could not get a read on it either.....is this a sign of a bad ecu?

looking for a wiring diagram for the disco 96
I am going to take the ecm off and clean the contacts see if any of the solder points are broken make sure it is good and dry and put it back on. I personally believe this is the root of my problems.

The RAVE has a complete set of wiring diagrams - link is in my sig.

you will need the (COMPLETE 500+MB Zip) RAVE as I do not think the Workshop Manual has the schematics, but I am checking now.

You DO need the complete RAVE. Once downloaded, look for the "Electric Troubleshooting Manuals" for the Schematics.

The Workshop Manual only has the actual troubleshooting steps, not the schematics/diagrams.

just to update this thread....i cleaned out the ecu it was corroded badly and that made it so i could up link with the ecm....however it did not fix my problem ultimately I had to go on ebay and buy a used ecm and I am waiting on that now it will be here in a couple of days I may have to go to the dealer and have that reprogrammed....they say if the alarm ecu and the engine ecm do not give each other the correct code it will not start....or it may start a couple of times but it will stop starting once the two of them realize the ecm isn't giving the correct code.
