Both types of sliders encapsulate the rockers and bolt through the rockers only difference is adding the frame braces and tree bars ( nerf bars , side steps)

I find sliders to be more important than bumper. The sills take more hits and the stock ones crumple.

Looks good! I'm not there yet, but intend to be adding some protection in the future...

I agree. I have both, but without any bumpers at all, I'd be even less likely to hit them. But the sills get ground a lot. Mine are rashed about as much as the axles and tie-rod. The only thing I hit more is the differential guards.

I have done fine with sill-mounted sliders. Frame mounts are either going to be lower or complex. If you go low enough they will clear the sill. But if they're tied into the sill, then they should be isolated from the frame with bushings. Any plates or tubes that tie them into the frame are going to cause their own clearance issues. I have ripped through one of the outriggers that come out of the frame to hold the body bushing. Slider braces would get caught just the same. If they're horizontal, they won't have much strength. They'd need to be triangulated, which means they'd mount low on the frame, or they'd come through the floor and tie into a cage. All that adds weight and complexity that isn't needed for the typical Rover build.

The side tubes that run to the frame are not for up down force they are for side force, you get sideways on a boulder or stump, they are meant to keep the rocker from collapsing in toward frame

Default progress update

Well got the front and rear shells drawn and converted to omax. Front bumper was cut today from 10 ga AR400 on the water jet and started tacking together. Steering skid plate is drawn and waiting on material. The diff guards are causing me trouble though. Ideally I would like full protection. problem is the front diff has a track bar and steering stabilizer in the way. So there is more work to be done there. The sliders are drawn and waiting on material to arrive. The roof rack is another issue. I ordered 5-20 foot lengths of 1 inch seam welded tube. What was delivered was 5-20 foot lengths of 1 inch solid bar stock. Still trying to sort that out. Pics to come tomorrow

Thanks
Joe

Started creating cads for the sliders with built in side steps, based on the pdfs floating around this forum. Bringing the D1 to the office tomorrow and making sure all of the dimensions line up.
