TJM does this with their bumpers, and is nearly flush with the outer bars which I like. You could use thinner walled tube to offset the weight.

Minor criticism.. It seems like the shackle mounts stick out quite far.

I personally agree with Army about a thick main hoop and thinner side pieces, but I am having a brush bar that resembles the OEM D1 built so of course it would look silly if everything was super thick.

Strenght wise I think the base would normally take the brunt of it so you could go smaller, and the weight difference is negligable IMO so it is really a toss up to preference.

For reference RTE only uses .120 on their brush bars, the guy that might build my bumper is going to do the whole thing base and brush bar is .180 and depending on how it looks I might have him go smaller.

I think .120 would be more then plenty, that extra .400 is going to probably net you about what, say, 10 extra pounds from the brush bar? Going from .120 to .180 for the whole bumper and brush guard was a 40 pound difference. According to my builder whom has done plenty of Rover bumpers.

If weight it a concern you could get by with .120 IMO. I am almost ready to pull the trigger on mine as soon as I get the plans back from him to go over. But that is enough ricer math for today.

One of the best looking bumpers by far.

Too bad there isn't one for a D1.

My 6 speeds, I was not referring to wall thickness, you want thicker wall for strength, I was saying the od of the tube makes a huge difference on aesthetics, to large and it looks like crap , to small and it looks chinsy

Nah weight is pretty erelavent if you want a sturdy winch bumper IMO, plus that's what HD springs are for lol
