Vibration?
I wouldn't think you would need to replace the shaft unless it is damaged (which I think you would be able to visibly see) however if you do you just need to have a drive shaft shop balanced it like getting new tires on a wheel.
You may have to take it to a driveshaft shop.
Another alternative with putting in a used one is, mount it, test drive it, if it is vibrating you will have to drop it down, rotate it to a different orientation and repeat.
One of the positions will eventually be the right one. If you offer the proper praises to The Rover Gods PRIOR to starting, it should go smoothly. If you anger them, it will be the third or fourth attempt.

Ok guys so my driveshaft looks good so does my u-joints no play when I rock it back and forth. I noticed some fluid under my t-case. I checked my diff lock the other day to make sure it wasn't locked up. Could no fluid or it not being locked in 4-hi cause the vibration?
Ok so since I last posted. The vibration went away until today. I turned right and heard some clicking and thought cv joint. Now I'm a total noob, but it vibrates pretty bad again and makes a squeaky noise could it be a bad bearing or axle. It is also making a clunking noise like low oil but sounds like it's from my cats. I'm at a loss should I just start parting it out. I love this disco but it keeps giving me a whole lot more problems everytime I fix something else.
First off, your vehicle may have multiple problems, especially if you just bought it, or if you have neglected maintenance. Just accept that and try to deal with them one at a time. If you recently acquired it, have you done a good, solid inspection & tuneup yet?
Basically you need to narrow down which noises happen when, and under what conditions. These pointers may seem elementary, but you should try the following:
Visually inspect everything in the drivetrain and suspension. Wiggle different components with your hands (or a pry bar) to see if they are loose. Recruit a mechanic for help if you don't know what you are doing. Report results.
Double check the rubber plate at the back of your rear driveshaft, that it is intact and not worn/torn/exploded. I believe this is called the prop shaft or propellor shaft. Mine went out recently and it rumbled pretty badly at all speeds.
Put transmission in neutral, vehicle stationary, rev engine, report results.
Put transmission in drive, vehicle stationary, depress brakes firmly, rev engine, report results.
Take your Disco to a parking lot, turn the wheels as far left as you can, try driving in circles at different speeds. Repeat with wheels locked right, report results.
Drive in a straight line, accelerating through all the gears. Then take your foot off the accelerator, and downshift manually through all gears. I'm assuming you have an automatic, is that correct? Report results.
If the noise crops up while driving, try one of the following and note any changes:
1) depress accelerator
2) release accelerator
3) depress brakes
4) release brakes
5) shift to neutral
6) shift to a different gear
7) punt.

Ok so earlier in my post I checked the shaft and u joints nothing loose. How about I try and record myself driving. I am having a mechanic look at it tomorrow. It is so hard to explain what the noises sound like. I will post what the mechanic says
