Default waterpump removal

I tried last night to remove the waterpump. I understand the large nut on the shaft between the pully and the fan is reverse thread. Is this nut the first thing to remove?
What is the best way to lock up the waterpump shaft/pully to loosen this nut?
The Manual speaks of using special tools.... I am sure you guys have a simple method.....thanks in advance.....mark

it is not reverse thread. Feel the threads on the new pump. You can rent a thin tool to go around the nut and leave the belt on. Tapping the tool gets it sometimes. Others have used a screwdriver on the edge of the nut, but you will destroy your clutch. I have even resorted to loosening a nut on the pump pulley and wedging a wrench to keep the pulley from spinning. You may destroy a bolt doing it that way, though.

I used huge channel locks on the edge of the pulley. This can be bad as it can damage the pulley. It worked but it was a bitch.

Well given that I read that it was reverse thread, probably tonight I will find better success at getting it to turn... Perhaps I can use a large C-clamp on the pully, or use a long bolt in one of the small bolt openings. .....

Where is the serpintine belt tightened or loosened?

Thanks for your advice......

You loosten the belt at the springloaded tensioner. It should be just to the right of the alternater looking at the motor
