Default Well here it goes. Head Gasket Repair.

White smoke pouring out the exhaust. Loosing coolant, however there isnt any real overheating issue.

I need AS MUCH ADVICE AND TIPS AS POSSIBLE.

Also any special tools I need?

So far I know..

Tips:
Label EVERYTHING [Found this is not necessary unless your super clueless]
Take Pictures [Again Not necessary]
Zip Lock Bags are your friend [Just make sure you close them.]

Tools:
Basic Hand Tools
Torque Wrench
Fan Wrench [NOT NEEDED]
8 AND 12MM 12 point socket
Breaker Bar
[PLASTIC] Gasket scraper

Fluids:
Oil [cause its time and I have water in oil]
Coolant
Gasoline [to clean]

If you're using a metal gasket scraper, be careful, this is maybe the softest alum I've seen

Shop vac?

there's conflicting opinions about using sealer, maybe do a search, majority rules.
(though I'd tend to not use it.)

Good luck, take pics, If you know what the stuff is that you ordered by looking at it, you'll do great

Underneath all that junk is just a "60's pushrod motor, take your time, make a list maybe, and do it right.

Nice truck

luck,greg

Im sure Ill do fine, only thing im worried about is..

Forgetting where some wires or hoses go [but I know this engine pretty good] or loosing a peice, bolt etc. [Im known for this] or ending up with a few extra bolts having no clue where they go.

I have never taken apart an engine, though it seems pretty simple. I have a friend who takes apart his 5.9 dakota engine just about every day and a brother in law who knows alot so Im sure ill be safe.

So far I only took off the MAF, intakemanifold and alternator. I spent most of the time fixing the alternator. Some internal piece broke off, and while I was fixing that, some beetle on its back started screetching [ I swear ] and then started chasing me cause I had a flashlight in my hand..

Then I go outside and find a praying mantis sitting on my tools. Never seen one of them in my LIFE..

Im thinking about just waiting till tomorrow morning to start agian. These bugs are out to get me.

Default dont worry

Hey relax, it's not as hard as it looks..i took out everything to the block in 6 hours.. forget the zip lock..there not that many bolts anyway. You will forget the next day anyway so dont sweat it. As for wiring...it will only go wher it is supposed to. just keep your rockers and pushrods in the same order. dont use a metal gasket scraper..use plastic... good time also to radiator to radiator shop to have cleaned, rodded and tested...takes 30 minutes to get out...change your waterpump also...piece of mind...enjoy the fun...
