Yes the wires matter that much, if you go cheap on anything go cheap on the plugs, NOT the wires.
I am on my third set of plug wires and I have only had my truck since April '07, I used Duralast wires, I will be buying Magnecors once I have the money.
I used Denso Iridium plugs and Duralast wires, the wires lasted a year, now I am on my second set of wires in 7 months, the plugs are still good, but the wires are junk.
They have been replaced under warrenty every time, but...it is a PIA to keep getting mis fires and taking the time to change out the wires every couple of months.

Follow the link for both plugs and wires. Save yourself time and hassle and get the magnecor 8mm wires right away. You may be able to find them locally in a performance shop where you are but I doubt they will beat the price you'll find online.
I posted this on another thread but I'll say the same thing here since it applies. Talked to my mechanic today and he recommended staying away from the Bosch Platinum +4's. He said the engine was designed around a single ground plug and run just fine with them. His recommendation was either a single ground copper plug or the bosch double platinum. He doesn't think there is any advantage to the 4 grounds. I am going to try the +4's since I have already ordered them but thought I would throw in my 2 cents and what I was told.

ive only had the kingsborne wires for a month but the combination of kingsborne 8mm wires and ngk platinum plugs with a larger than normal gap (0.45") work as well as the magnecor 8mm wires and bosch +2s i had in my old disco. ive heard a lot of good about kingsborne and wanted to try something different. it doesnt hurt that the wires were cheap.
