Yeah, trim out the windshield and other areas with some nice color of fancy Duct Tape and see if that helps or just turn the music up to cover it up.
If you use the Duct Tape idea, make sure you color key it so it looks like a Land Rover should. And keep the edges nice and straight and avoid wrinkling the tape , I hate to see sloppy Duct Tape work.

For those interested, I took the 2003 Land Rover discovery to rover doctor in Martinez California. He diagnosed the whining as the U joints in the front driveshaft. The original equipment you joints do not come with grease fittings. He installed a new driveshaft with greaseable U joints for $500 including parts and labor. Also, it fixed the "clunking, jerking" that I was feeling when the transmission was under load.
