Default why the stepped roof?

Just wondering on a rainy day why Land Rover came up with the two level roof design on the discovery. Anyone know the history? Or the reason? Head room in the back seat? or in the jump seats? Sure makes for some complicated roof racks.

I have canoe carriers with Seda aluminum rain gutter brackets that I used on my old Jeep Wagoneer, but they aren't tall enough to clear the discovery's roof even in the front. Bummer.

Because a Discovery with a flat roof would just be a cheap Range Rover..............or a Discovery Sport. Hahahaha!!!!!

So you have to buy a house with a taller garage door.

To accommodate headroom for people in the jump seats in the rear cargo section?

I believe you are absolutely right. I sat in a jump seat for the first time today and my 5'-6" head just clears the roof. They must be designed for children.
