WINCH: BADLANDS 12k VS SUPERWINCH 9.5k
I bought a Terrafirma Winch Bumper so now I obviously want a winch.
I read reviews on both.
Badlands (Part #61256) is 12k @ 14.5 Feet Per Min (no load) @ $300
Superwinch (part # 1595200) is 9.5k @ 19 Feet Per Min (no load) @ $350
I hear they are both good brands, badlands is actually smittybuilt from what I read.
What say you Rover Community?

I run the badlands 12k, with a synthetic rope, I have not used the rope yet but winch worked awesome with the original cable just real heavy, changing to the rope did make a noticeable difference on handling since it took 50# off the center of the front end
If you wait till the winch is on sale you can use the 20% coupon and get it under $300, and buy the wireless remote for $30 works great
The winch is slow and loud but does the job

My two cents is save up for a Superwinch Talon or similar. A winch is no place to cheap out as far as I'm concerned. The argument that the Badlands can be replaced for free at any HF doesn't do you any good when it craps out in the field.
If you just want a winch for doing stuff around the yard or pulling your buddies out of mudholes at the local offroad park then either of those would work, and I'd lean towards the Badlands even.
If you plan on going to remote areas A quality winch is a must.
There's a lot to consider in a winch than just price point. Compare specs and what kind of contactor/solenoid and line it comes with. The standard 4-pack of solenoids is crap. The two solenoid setup is slightly better, and the single contactor Albright style is the best. Consider line speed and amp draw as well.
I ended up buying a Viking GS-9 winch. It's the same as the older Superwinch EP9.0 and ComeUp DV-9.

I have the 9k Badland winch. Got it shipped to my front door for $260. I am of the off road park weekend warrior type, so I have no worries about being stranded and eaten by bears. I've only had to use it once, but I was STUCK. Deceptive mud puddle ended up being a small pond and water was up to the top of the headlights. That meant the winch, control box, and wireless box were under water. It worked flawlessly, and away I went. I did however seal all the mating surfaces and wire outlets on the control box with black waterproof sealant before installing. That's something I highly recommend for whatever type winch you buy.
This test is a few years old but is a good read. It will give you a good idea of what sort of things matter in a winch and what things you might want to compare.
