so, if it's a 95, it probably doesn't have airbags, right? I wonder if that will cause any problems using the ARB bumper. I know they make two, an airbag version and a non-airbag version.... I googled it a bit when I had my D1 (because the non airbag is like $300 less) and some people said using the non-airbag version on an airbag disco would make it MORE likely for the airbag to go off and some people said it would make it LESS likely to go off. any thoughts?

I suppose you could disable the airbag all together when offroad.

All cars sold in the US from '95 on were required to have at the very least a drivers side airbag.
I have also wondered about the airbag-non airbag bumper thing, I do not know the answer but I have been saving my pennies and empty Pepsi can's for a non-airbag ARB bumper.
$850+ shipping is the cheapest I have found.

Those are the kind of Disco's I have been on the lookout for. Even at that color, I would take it.

yeah, that's just for cars. trucks and suv's always get things later. I think it was around 1997 or 1998 that they required trucks and suvs to have airbags too.

'95 Disco's have airbags.
As far as the "air-bag compatible" bumper, keep in mind there are no NHTSA bumper regs that address airbag deployment. The regs only address preventing damage to critical front end components in accidents up to a certain speed.

The Disco airbags are deployed from chassis mounted (not bumper mounted) sensors that detect deceleration.
"Airbag compatible" bumpers have crush cans which will absorb some impact force and slow the speed of deceleration. So not having such a bumper would cause a faster deceleration and so deploy the airbags sooner.

If you wear your seat belt and shoulder harness I can't imagine an accident where you'd also need your air-bags to deploy being affected in a measurable way by the split second earlier deployment.

In a nutshell, I wouldn't worry about it.

Other countries have different regs about such bumpers, Australia being one.
