Default Worth It?

I have recently found a 1997 Discover 1 with just over 125,xxx miles. The previous owner has done a lot of work with 15+ yrs working on LRs. All the typical issues he has preventatively done work on.

Downside, he wants me to purchase it un-inspected with known light issues for $3000 or wait unknown amount of time for inspection with possibility of no deal.

Vehicle has new fuel pump, rebuilt transfer case, new head gaskets <7000 miles, Old Man Emu 2" lift springs and Bilstein shocks, new steering rods, converted U joint and no mechanical issues or leaks.

I am reaching out to this forum because I've found it to have the most knowledge base on the web.

I've been searching high and low for a quality adventure vehicle that is not a Jeep and this is the best I have found in my area.

I will consider any and all recommendations

Thanks

I would say no it's not, why won't he let it be inspected. You can have mine for 3k and you are free to do all the checking you want. 1998 with 140k ARB front bumper, air locker, 2"OME and a halfway decent interior ..............

Worth it? You already know the answer to this question.....HELL NO! If you buy this without an inspection, then you might be the type of person who would go on a blind date with my sister.....& much like this ROVER....She's a PIG!

Remember the outside always looks nice, if it has sunroofs pull up the carpet and behold the rust lol

Sdot2010, I'm seeing an opportunity here. Start dating OverRovers sister, show her this thread and just maybe she will give you a rover for free (after she disposed of the body).

No way. You've got to see it and inspect it.

$3k with known light issues... sounds like there may be more 'known issues' they are not telling you about.Any time someone wants to sell you anything without an inspection, the price better be rock bottom, like around $500 and I would still want to drive it to see that everything works. They may have found the transfer case is cracked from the front drive shaft breaking and will cost more than the truck will ever be worth. $3000 is not that great a deal in my book, even with all the work he has done.

I bought my 97 D1 with known issues, a bunch of codes and it didn't run for $600, but I still knew what it did and didn't do before I dropped the cash. If he wants you to wait for an inspection, there is a reason. No harm walking away....

jimvw57 thanks for the response. I have seen and driven the vehicle and it is in pretty good condition. There is some rust on the C pillars and the d-lock is a bit sticky but other than that the vehicle drives great.

Additionally, it was garage kept for 5 years with less than 2000 miles/yr put on it.

I am definitely going to wait on the inspection though.

Go to local parts store and get a cheap OBDII reader, you'll need one after purchase anyway, and read the codes, look them up and decide.
