Default WTK 1996 D1 5 spd

Hello All,
After looking for awhile, I have been able to purchase a 96 D1 manual shift. The previous owner stated that the rear differential was bad, locks up after driving a short distance. I haven't had time to diagnose or tear into it yet. I did notice the transfer case would not shift into low range, but the center dif lock works (high range). Possibly the previous owner was driving around in high range / dif lock? So my questions, 1. are the axles / gear ratio the same for auto / manuals? 2. are the transfer cases the same as well?
Thank you, I appreciate any help.
Karl

The gear ratios are the same 3.54's for either trans and if memory serves the transfer cases interchange as well.

Double check with Paul Grant on here he would know for sure, and probably can set you up on a good deal for a used transfer case if needed.

Gear ratios and transfer box ratios are the same between ZF and R380 cars

All discoveries had 1.2 Transfer case ratios (high). I believe what you are getting at is: can you use parts from other discoveries? The answer is yes.

Did you try moving the car a few times before getting into low range? The linkage can sometimes be motivated by WD40, you may need to adjust the throw in some cases.

this was the case for me - have to remove the console to get to it from the top for easiest way IMO
I removed mine and resealed/replaced the cover.
