Thanks Disco Mike. I just put some Magnecors on. I called the Independent and asked him if
I could provide my own parts. He was rather indignant. He told me it wasn't worth his time to have my truck in his shop for 3 days if he couldn't make some money on the parts.

Anyone know of a good shop on the Alabama,Ms Gulf Coast?

if it isn't worth his time, then he should quote a different rate for labor!

Yeah that's bull, my local indy foreign car center allows the customer to provide parts if they can get them for cheaper. Usually though their prices are the same as through the online parts suppliers.

That sounds like the attitude I got when I took mine in for an estimate at Euro Motorworks in Indianapolis. Couldn't supply my own parts (they wanted $750 for gaskets, bolts, and spark plugs), and the labor quote was stupid high at $1720. The total for head gasket work, throttle body kit, and water pump was $3465.31. No thanks. I don't care how fancy your shop is. To top it off when I picked my Disco up they hadn't re torqued the spark plugs and one was almost all the way out of the head.

So, call his BS and go pick up the truck, let him know there are other mechanics out there.

I'm going to pick up the truck now. What's funny is the Independent knows I'm in the car business and he's still trying to pop me.

I"m going to the Land Rover Dealer. He'll at least give 20% off parts as a dealer to dealer courtesy. The labor rate is more. But, I feel more comfortable dealing with them now.

As they say,"Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered."

Why don't you just buy the parts and have your own in house dealership mechanic do the work (sounds like a bmw dealership from your name)? The entire procedure is in the Rave CD/Shop manual which is free online.

I'm actually with Mercedes now. I talked to my service mgr and he doesn't
sound too interested in it. If one of the techs screw something up, I'd hate to be the disgruntled customer complaining to them.

One more saying,"Don't s##t where you eat."
