Default ‘04 Fan clutch- will the Dorman work?

So I recently rejoined the fold and am sorting out all the things we all know need to get take care of. In particular, I’m doing the cooling system first off. My temps climb more than I’d like at times ad are all over the map, so I’m just going to do the full Monty in the radiator, 180 T stat, and new fan clutch. The nectar of Satan has already been removed, so I’m good there, but this is a peace of mind deal to set it and forget it.

As this is my first facelift Disco and in doing some research, it looks like they changed the design a bit and the fan and clutch are one piece. Can I still use the Dorman fan and clutch listed in this thread: https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...n-33724/page2/

Specifically the clutch is: 215158 and the fan is: 620-602 and they are from Advance auto.

I want the severe duty one and if I’m looking at things correctly, I can’t pull the fan blades off the existing clutch and put them on the new one. Anyone have any experience? My last D2 was a ‘00, and I think they are different from what I’ve read.

Thanks for any input.

I have the severe duty and new fan sitting in my basement I'd sell you for cheap. Used it for one trip to work from denver to the springs and took it off. Also look into the extinct inline t-stat mod. Far better than any configuration of the stock set up.

I run the 2991 and a Dorman fan, with the inline thermostat mod. My Disco will run at 182-192 all day depending on the temp.
The hottest I have seen was 215 or so about 94 deg up hill on a 13+ % grade at about 20mph or less it took 20+ minute to climb that grade. Dropped to 162 at one point coming down the other side.

It is loud when the clutch is fully engaged but that is to be expected

The 2991 is just too loud in my D1. Super obnoxious. It screams the entire time. Even below 190 deg.

In my p38 it is fine. Sorta weird.

Here are the specs for various Hayden fan clutches...

Dang, you guys rock as always. I know about the in line deal and I may do that at some point, but for the time being I’m going with stock as I never ran into issues in the past as long as I bled completely and had new components. I’m still in the honeymoon from a Vegas wedding phase in that we are getting to know each other after taking the vows, so this is all just so I can get a good baseline and reliable running as I address everything else.

Plenty of data here to digest, so thanks a bunch as always. I’ll update the build thread with what I end up with. Thanks again, guys.

Will that fan work with the 2991 you think? I really want the extra cooling of the severe duty. Thanks!

Hi Richard. finally taking a look at the 2991 and Dorman fan you recommended. Surprised it didn’t come with bolts. Looks like M8 is correct even though it wasnt listed in directions. Is that what you used? Do we need the spacer? Lock washer ?
