Well, I lost my other Disco deal last weekend. Waited too long to get back to the seller.

Here's the latest find.

2001 Disco SE7 108,000 miles and a bad tranny. Offered $2,000 and the seller accepted.

New tranny and this will be a great buy. What do you all think?

Are you installing this tranny yourself? If not, maybe it would have been worth spending the money on a car that was working well in the first place. If you are doing the transmission, I say well bought.
Either way, you have committed to it, so don't look back. Try to enjoy every step.

I have never installed a tranny but I am willing and able to learn. DIY is the only way to go for me. Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to wait and see what a few of the others here have to say.

Let me clarify robot: Latest find not latest purchase.

As has mentioned already, you are the new owner. Have you looked around for a good tranny/ with warranty?
It is doubtful you have the tools necessary to do this job so start searching for a good mechanic, plan on resealing the rear main, the front tranny seal, any and all leaking t/case seals and of course service the tranny.

I have not purchased the vehicle yet. I am asking you all if you think it would be a good buy.

Since you won't be able to do the work, you need to get a couple estimates based on what I posted before along with doing a major service to get it current and a front drive shaft rebuild/replace if it hasn't been done yet. After doing this, then see what the total cost is.
If you have to have this work done, plan on around $800 to have it serviced, $250 for the drive shaft rebuild and the tranny replacement.

Just wrote to ask if the seller had the drive shaft rebuilt with greasable u-joints. If he answers "NO" then I am fairly sure that I know why his tranny is blown.

DM ~ Why would I not be able to do the work myself? I really wanted to purchase something that I could take apart and learn from. If all I'm going to do is take it to a mechanic then I won't bother even buying one.

I don't think you should buy this one. Replacing the transmission is not really a realistic "learning" DIY job. Like said above find one with blown head gaskets or a bad differential or whatever. A whole new transmission even used is pricey as is the cost of installation.
