02 DII Transmission Leak
After my DII sits for a doy or two there is a teaspoon or so of transmission fluid on the garage floor. If driven daily I never notice it on the floor after parking overnight, but if not driven over the weekend it is there Monday morning when I pull out. I got under there and looked but couln't find any obvious signs of leakage, but there appears to be weeping around the inspection cover on the bottom of the bell housing. I callled LR Louisville and they said not to be too concerned and they would check it out when I had it in for its next service.
Should I be concerned? Any ideas as to the source or repairs involved?
Thanks,
John

Sounds like the front seal might be leaking. Remove the inspection cover and see how much fluid comes out.
Also check the fluid level in the transmission. I wouldnt be to worried about it. As long as the fluid level is fine.
After they do the next service and check things out let us know before you spend any money.

RE: 02 DII Transmission Leak
LR Louisville did a tranny service in 12/06. Had the oil changed last 2 months ago @ Valvoline. They may have topped it off and added too much. It was shortly after that I noticed the leaking.I know the fluid on the floor is transmission fluid.
However I'm wondering about the stuff on the bell housing. There was also some on the front drive shaft. I'm hoping it's not coolant. Hard to tell as it has a redish tint as well. The overflow tank looks full though.

RE: 02 DII Transmission Leak
Rub it between your finger and thumb, is it slimy or oilly? Slimy is coolant, oily it is trans fluid.
You can also smell it, clean trans fluid has almost no smell and coolant has a sweet smell.
And yes, it is VERY possible that suckoline overfilled it. ANd by doing so when the fluid gets hot and expands it will look for a way out, and a weak seal is the path of least resistance.
SO you can do one of two things, dont worry about it and once it is no longer over full it will stop leaking, or you can drain out the extra fluid.
Alittle over full is no big deal, but alot over full is.
