Default 02 Disco Service

Hey guys, you all seem to be a knowledgeable group, and I have a question. My 02 Disco has 31k miles, and when I called the LR dealer they want 700+ bucks to service it. So, my question is, what do I need to do to it, and what parts and lubes do you guys recommend? Also, is there anything I can do to extend the next service? Thanks

You might want to check with Rover and see if they ever did the service, which was free to the owner.
What have you done to it lately and what do you use it for?

Well, had the three light deal at 20k miles, so took it in for service and they replaced the abs system and master cylinder under warranty ,but the front brake pads also had to be replaced for 400 bucks. So took care of that. Also, when I accelerate there is a clank/bump noise at the transfer case. It always did that but seems to get louder as the miles roll. Other than that, just regular 3k mile oil changes. I use it as a daily driver, with the occasional vacation trip, just stop and go traffic really.

Are you still in warranty, if so I would look into the bump sound, if not get back to me and we will talk about a possible couple quick fixes.

Well, while it was in warranty, had it looked at and the LR guy said it wasn't anything abnormal. Not in warranty anymore.

All all wheel drive vehicles especially Rovers with their full gear t/case make noise.
Change the t/case of. switch to a 75/140W synthetic gear oil and you should be fine.
The other thing to check is the double cardon joints on the front drive shaft where it hooks to the t/case. If they do not have grease fittings on them, have the u-joints replaced ASAP before they fail taking out the tranny along the way.

What brand of oils and lubes will last the longest? If I use amsoil all around will that extend my service interval?

I prefer Royal Purple, but I am a distributor, so I am partial...
