Default 02 Discovery 2 front drive shaft question.

Hello everyone. I just purchased my first LR today. I picked up an 02 disco 2 for $1300 today with 110k. It had the front drive shaft fail. I was thinking I could remove the shaft and lock the CDL and drive it home.. well being a newbie I didnt realize I couldn't do this with an 02. So here is my question. I found a new shaft with greaseable u joints for 185 + shipping. It says its for a TD5 oem# TVB000100. The 4.0 V8 I have calls for OEM # TVB000110. Will the TD5 shaft work? I'm just trying to get it oprable so I can drive it. Thank you in advance for any help.

I do not think I would risk it being wrong and then having to send it back and order the correct one.

x2 on that. I would make sure you get the correct one. Some places will not give you your money back, or at the very least make YOU pay for the shipping to return it if it's not right. Some places also have a "restocking fee" I think I'd look around for the correct one, if it had the same part number you may be alright but, with the varying # I doubt it's the same. It might just end up being a waste of money.
If you want to save some money on one you could probably buy a used one and replace the u-joints yourself, if you are so inclined.
I'm guessing the one that broke on the truck is no good at all correct? A lot of places who sell them also want yours back as a core. Check out Roverland Parts - We know Land Rover Parts they may have one. I'm unsure of prices though.

I got mine from Driveline Services of Atlanta for $225.00. They do ship anywhere and have a core charge.

Here is the link to the shaft I found. The old shaft is trashed and unusable. All the other ones I saw were used and in the $250 range.

I was looking at one in the salvage yard today as I pulled a starter. Usually in the $35 range. Should be plenty of big yards within reasonable drive for you. Or one of the forum's dismantlers. Make sure the bad shaft did not beat up the transmission.

As this vehicle is new to you, advise new battery, cures a lot of gremlins. D2's have 10 times the electronics of a D1.

Download free tech manuals called the RAVE, check tech sticky on forum for plenty of things to do.

Heckuva price if shaft is all that is wrong with it.

I know the TD5 is a five cylinder diesel. I assumed however that the 4.0 L and TD5 use the same transmission and transfer case. I'm just trying to figure out if the shafts are essentially the same and the part # just signifies the diesel or gas application. Or if in fact they are not interchangeable. They essentially look the same. I'm thinking that of there is a difference it might be the length. The main goal is get this shaft as reasonable priced as I can because eventually this rig will have custom shafts and axles.

lrseries.co.uk lists that PN for the TD5 manual gearbox.
