Default 02 TD5 auto. Gearbox slipping

02 TD5 auto. Gearbox slipping as result of an oil leak problem & overheating. Max now about 30mph up a moderate hill. It's going to need repair or replacing; Ashcroft in Luton & A1 Gearboxes in Biggleswade have been recommended by professional mechanics. Any other suggestions for firms in the same area?
I'm told there's a treatment available which will give a short extension to the 'box life. Do they work? Recommendations welcome.

Did you refill the autobox according to the correct procedure, with the engine running? If not, you'll have weird performance issues.

I did the last time - still no improvement. I could see whitish vapour in the rear-viw mirror when pulling up a hill!

That would be unlikely to be from the transmission.
