03-04 Disco 2 XYZ switch. Can it be repaired like the earlier versions?
I just pulled my XYZ Switch from my 2003 D2,...drilled out the rivets and opened it up,....to find a very different internal set up than what I have seen in various tutorials on how to repair an XYZ Switch. Pic attached of mine. Do these suffer from the same worn contact issues as the earlier versions,....and if so,...can they also be repaired, re-assembled and replaced,....or are they a replace only item.
Related question: Anyone know if the earlier version can be substituted for the later version?
An XYZ in a D2 is an XYZ switch. Be it the older tan one or late 03-04 black one. The earlier tan one is higher quality IMHO, vs the newer black style, but either can be used. Out of all the D2’s I’ve owned only one had an issue with the XYZ switch. It was a newer black style & it had a mind of it’s own. Slapped in a known good tan spare & no more problems after that.

On one single occurrence I had "P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction".
I wonder if that might have been my culprit. At least I know a suspect now!
It mounts with 2 small bolts, and when you loosen them you can slightly rotate the entire XYZ switch in either direction. I'd suggest loosening the bolts, and trying one way or the other first before swapping the entire XYZ switch. I've fixed a few for people that experienced occasional M & S flashing or a transmission fault. My 04 faulted when I first bought it with the M & S lights and upon a restart they were gone. The battery was awful so I cleaned the terminals and replaced the battery. Fault was gone for a while, but came back. I tried the adjustment trick, and it was a no go. I swapped it out and zero issues after that.
FYI... I looked into trying to get a P38 XYZ switch to work for our Disco 2 but it doesn't.
The P38 switch has a 4-wire connector vs. Disco 2's 10-wire connector with different part numbers... P38 = UHB100180 or STC4452, D2 = UHB100190.

To address the OPs question, the XYZ switch innards pictured are the earlier version, and there are tutorials out there about how to rebuild/repair them.

Do you know where a rebuild tutorial for the earlier version is? Thanks
