I haven't had to buy a MAF as I've been able to grab spares from 03-04 D2's (let me be crystal clear here and say just the actual MAF sensor itself) from junk yards for cheap.

I agree that some parts like the 180F Thermostat from LR are best vs the cheap motorad replacements (in Chubb's mindset/thinking the 180F Grey thermostat couldn't go on a V8 as LR had it on diesels....), but not all replacement parts need to be OEM LR Parts. I'm using an Auto Zone Fan Clutch, Ford Explorer/Ranger Dorman 620-112 Fan Blade, Power Stop Rotors/Pads, green coolant vs Dexcool, NGK Plugs, Kingsborne Spark Plug Wires or STI, and the list goes on. Just saying my LR's are very reliable using aftermarket stuff in some areas.

Default P/N compairsons

so what are the differences between

Bosch 0280217532 Mass Airflow Sensor - Is this one for the 4.0?

and

Bosch 0280218010 Mass Airflow Sensor

Both are said to fit my 04 with the 4.6?

Thanks

The actual MAF sensor itself (sensor only) is the exact same part on the 4.0L or the 4.6L. So if u buy just the bare MAF sensor by itself it can go into either the 4.0L or 4.6L MAF Housing. Very simple PNP with just two screws.

Only time you would need the complete MAF Sensor & Housing is if your tabs were broken for the airbox lid to lock into place and normally it's the 4.6L lid that breaks vs the MAF Housing.

I grabbed another MAF in fact today for $10.00 out of an 04. Tested it in the parking lot before I left. Now I have another trail spare!

Get the Bosch MAF with the best price & if the housing is wrong just move the new sensor over to your original MAF Housing.

Unfortunately I am looking for a complete unit as I had a fan explode and take it out. So trying to find the replacement for the 4.6.

And I want the right diameter one since I can't swap it out. The pick and pull around here don't have any and they want enough for a used one on eBay to make the new one cost effective.

0280218010 is the P/N for the Bosch MAF and the larger 4.6L Housing. The 0280217532 is the P/N for the Bosch MAF and the smaller 4.0L Housing.

If it just killed the housing I could grab one for ya and mail it to ya. Since it was a fan blade I'm gonna bet it completely killed the entire thing. Now would be a good time to invest in the Dorman 620-112 Fan Blade and Fan Clutch vs the $$$ one piece unit.

If you need a new upper fan shroud, let me know as they're all over the junk yards around here.

I almost had the OEM fan blade on my 08 Hummer H3 Alpha fly apart and possibly take out all sorts of stuff. I was looking under the hood one day and noticed the blade seemed to have a wobble to it when it was running. I shut it off and upon closer inspection one of the blades was completely cracked with maybe 1-2mm or plastic holding it on!!! I did some research on it and found out a Ford Explorer equipped with a 5.0L V8 had the same fan clutch, but a 100% metal fan blade. I took a trip down to my local Pick N Pull and grabbed one for 8.00. I never had to worry about loosing a fan blade on that H3 ever again!

After reading all this info today, I bought the Bosch MAF #0280217532 for $89.49 using the 5% discount code MMFBR18 on Rockauto.

@Best4x4:

"The 4.6L DOES NOT suck in so much air that it requires a completely different MAF sensor vs a 4.0L. The intake tube, airbox lid, and MAF housings are slightly larger, but lots of people have gotten tired of the 4.6L air boxes cracking, and have installed 4.0L airbox lids, intake tube, and maf housings onto a 4.6L and suffered zero performance issues or CEL's due to the fact."

Will the intake tube from 4.0L bolt onto the throttle body for 4.6L without any issues? If so, you just solved my problem. I ordered an airbox cover and a MAF for 4.6 but got the parts for 4.0 instead. Sounds like all I need to get is the intake tube and I am all set.

Yes the Throttle Body diameter is exactly the same. Only difference was in the intake tube side where the 4.6L MAF was. If you get a 4.0L Airbox lid, intake tube, and 4.0L MAF housing you can swap it completely out.

I've done it on several LR's from P38's to D2's without any problems.

@Best4x4, thank you for the information! Do you know the part number for the rubber o-ring/gasket that goes into the 4.0L airbox lid? After ordering a set of wrong parts, I'd rather double check ;-)
