Default 03 d2 electrical mysteries

Hi all,

On my newer d2, I have a variety of odd electrical issues which I think are contributing to the battery drain. If left a couple days, the battery will be flat. Installed a new battery and it wasn't much better

A couple oddities :
Radio and heated seats stay on with ignition off
Rear wiper sometimes does as well.

Worth noting, the terminals do not seem to grip the posts exceptionally well, however with a well charged battery it doesn't seem to be a problem

Also, one rear light is out and I hear that can cause electrical anomalies

Any clue where to begin?

Regards,
Chris

I would start with the battery connections. If you can remove or even rotate them by hand, you should replace. They may not be the cause of the drain but you will be chasing your tail tracking down any other electrical issues if the connections are not solid. Also check the connections at the fuse panel, alternator, and the engine block.

Then with a good battery and the ignition off, you can start probing the circuits in the fuse blocks and maybe isolate which one is still drawing current.

Regarding the radio and seats, if you mean that you turn the ignition from the on position back one click to the acc position, this is normal. My radio and heated seats run until I click back once more and remove the key.

Thanks for the input, I still have some aftermarket terminals left over from my car audio days so I will install those and see if it helps with the problem

Regarding the accessories staying on, I mean that they work all the time with the car off. Something is causing them not to shut off so i can't help but think that something else is live on that circuit. I have another d2 that doesn't run them when off so I can only assume that one of them isn't functioning as it should

So as I expected, fuse f15 is constantly live and not switched. I pulled the two fuses below with pictures of the radio and speakers and the radio stayed on with no key in the car. When I pulled f15 radio finally shut off. Also, heated seats can always be engaged regardless of f15 being pulled. Either something is wrong with a relay or something, which by the way, none shut off the radio when pulled, or something is back feeding power into this system somewhere
