Ain’t that just the way!

So that’s the updated part they’ve got and it installs pretty easily along the lines of what I wrote in the last post above? Do you happen to know if the Import Direct part is worthy?

This part would available on Tuesday locally and it’s inexpensive: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b...181841/4577668

O’Reilly has the Duralast part on the shelf there. It seems that’s what folks are using - the updated version seems to have an adapter. I think I’ll just get that unless anyone recommends against it and recommends another part.

I go with the upgraded unit vs the original style personally. Quick and easy install

Perfect! I’ll drive into town tomorrow and get that part. I guess I’ll just wing it with the repair procedure unless anyone has any tips thanks for everything everyone! I had a bit of a freak out yesterday!

The switch you linked from O'Reilly is the old-style switch, which anecdotal evidence suggests has a higher failure rate than the newer-style switch with the pigtail. Best4x4 and I both recommend the newer-style switch.

Installation is the same for both. You'll need to remove the lower panel under the steering wheel using panel poppers or something similar. After that, contort yourself to be able to reach up behind the brake pedal shaft to find the switch, then rotate it counterclockwise a quarter-turn or so to release it. Then disconnect the electrical connector. Installation is the reverse of removal. Please let us know how it works out for you.

Thank you so much for the help. I’ll be sure to get the Duralast part from AutoZone, which they’ve got in stock and I’ll report back after. Thanks again!!

Default Resolved with Duralast LU410 Brake Light Switch

I wanted to update y’all after this. I picked up the Duralast LU410 and installed it, which definitely required some contortion as redrover said!

The replacement part has a wiring adapter and it’s a bit different looking. I was able to get the brake lights Illuminated again and I was able to shift out of park without pushing the solenoid plunger button. I’m very happy - thank you all again. Now I can help others with this if needed.

Here’s a picture of the old brake light switch with the box for the replacement part.

Thanks again everyone!

Very satisfied! Without everyone’s help who knows how long I’d be pushing that solenoid button - probably until I got a ticket for driving without brake lights! Dave has helped me with a lot of things. It could be worthwhile for others to just replace this part before getting into this issue and needing to pull up the shift indicator cover the get at the solenoid.

It's part of the LR ownership initiation process, Finding out how to fix your truck without buying some guy a boat or fancy vacations for his wife and girlfriend... We pass it forward so that one day you too can help someone out when everyone else is out on the trails of life.
