03 Disco oil pump replacement. How long will it last?

Hello.
Just today I took delivery of a low mileage '03 Disco that had experienced an oil pump failure last Fall. There was no engine damage and the pump was replaced with a factory part.
I understand that this was due to an acknowledged design problem and the only cure was to replace the entire engine. I've also read that they start to fail in the 40k - 60k mile range.
Am I mistaken in assuming that the oil pump replacement will likely fail again in that same mileage range? Or, was the pump design updated and another failure less likely?
Thanks!

The problem is with the engine block, not the oil pump. Because of bad quailty control there were bad engine blocks produced.
The oil pump bolts to the front of the engine block, the problem is with the block. So even though the oil pump is new the block is not and therefore the pump will fail again.
There should be a record of the mileage at which the pump was replaced, I would subtract 10,000 miles from that and have it replaced again at that mileage.
So if it was replaced at 60k it would most likely fail again and 120k, so I would have it replaced at 110k. You want to be proactive on this.

This happened at 49k, so that's not much of a lifespan at all.
Isn't there some class action lawsuit in the works?
Thanks.

Yes I believe that there is a class action going on but I do not know for sure.
This happened when Ford owned LR and Ford would not repair the trks once out of warrenty, Ford has since sold LR in the last 2 months and I doubt that the new owners are going to do anything either, and good luck collecting against a bankrupt automaker. (Ford)

Was it replaced under warranty? If so, you xhould keep all of your records and info you find

As a matter of fact, it was done by a local mechanic after the PO got fed up with the LR dealer.
Had it been a warranty issue, it would have gotten a new engine for, as I understand it, that's the recommended fix.

That is probally why the PO dumped the trk. Had it fixed so that he could sell it. Do you have a copy of the reapir bill? How much was it? I dont think the oil pump is to expensive and if you are mechanically inclined you can replace it yoiurself.

It was about $1200 at a local bodyshop and was a factory part from the dealer. They also tore the oil pan off while they had it apart. The work is guranteed.
I drove out and spoke to the mechanic who worked on it and he seemed honest enough, even going into detail about what he found when he checked out the crank and bearings(no damage). I've no reason to doubt his integrity as he had no ties to the PO. Besides, if there was an engine problem I'd know it by now.
Since he's alreadygot some Rover experienceand their rates are $45 an hour, it looks like I've found a local mechanic as well
