Default 03 Disco - Should I Buy it?

I found an 03 Disco SE7 with 29K miles on it for $15,500. It is in pretty good shape. The interior looks like new. It has a 2" lift and brand new 31.5" tires on 17" factory rims. I noticed some whining noises coming from the front axle/driveline. From what I have read is sound like that is common in 03 Discoverys. The car also has rear air and the dual sunroofs.

What do you guys think? Does this sound like a good deal?

We purchased our 03 with 30,000 miles and it now has 63,000 miles. Admittedly my wife actually wanted it and I was not comfortableat first with the seating. After 3 months I love the Disco and love driving it. I've owned Broncos, explorers, and a Toyota 4runner and the Disco is a superior vehicle. We love the fact that this model is dicontinued and years from now it will still catch driver's eyes. Our Disco occasionally makes a whining noise in the front when cornering. The power sterring pump is ok, and it doesn't seem to affect anything. The only problem we have ever had was the TC (traction control light) and the hill desent light on. This turned out to be a TC sensor harness in the front right wheel. It was code 1509 or 1590, I don't remeber but it had to go to the dealership for repair. Hope this helps!

Price is pretty good. When exactly do you hear the noise, may be normal, might not be.
I would suggest you get it to another shop and have it checked over first, just to make sure.

Mike,

The 03 disco that I'm thinking of buying makes the whining noise when accelerating. It is especially noticable when as you begin taking your foot off the accelerator. Does this sound like a common issue with the 03?

I also wanted to add that the serial number is not affected by the bad oil pump.

Sounds like a good price...... I bought an 03 SE with 60,000 miles for 14,000 back in December. I did all of the 60k service myself and I absolutely love this truck!!!!! My wife is still a little upset that I don't let her drive it to often. When I had my Nissan she used to drive it alot. Can't take the chance she might hurt my girl....

A rover tech checked out the car and said that the whining noise was gear whine from the front diff. So I bought the disco today. We got about 6 inches of snow tonight and the disco does awesome in the snow.
