Default 03' front end problems

so my 03 D2 is a real headache to maintain. this is the deal. driving down the road starting at about 20mph my vehicle starts making a vibration that feels similar to when you drive on the rumble strip on the side of the interstate. alltho its not nearly as intense. it rumbles up to about 40 mphs then goes away and comes back about 60 and goes away about 70. it whins the most when you start coasting, it gets more intense. now. it was like this for a couple of weeks. then one day it completely stopped. it has been fine for the past month and a half. now i have a really loud squeaking sound that happens only when there is any amount of power going to the wheels. the rate of the squeek changes with the rate of the vehicle. now. the squeaks are not 1:1 with the wheels. more like 4:1 squeek to wheel ratio... any ideas? u joints maybe ?

Have you replaced the 3 U-joints and centering ball in the front drive shaft with grease-able ones yet? If not, stop driving the vehicle before the front drive shaft explodes and rips a hole in your transmission.

Have you had your front drive shaft rebuilt. I would stop driving it and take it to a driveline shop and have it inspected.
Also could be your Panhard rod bushings. which keep your frame from moving side to side when you turn your wheels. I would check the front driveshaft first!

Here is another possibility... Check the balance weights on your front drive shaft and see if they are still there. Mine threw one of the weights and started vibrating at exactly those speeds.

Oh yeah, while you are under there, check the u-joints...

David, where did you go?????????????
I would stop driving that truck this morning and pay attention to your replies, your front drive shaft is most likely about to gernade it self and your tranny.
If you have not rebuilt or replaced the front drive shaft, if it only has one grease fitting and you just plain don't lube the joints, then that is what is wrong.

Don't worry about reading about them, if you have not had your rebuild or replaced, or if your not sure, count the number of grease fittings on the front shaft, if only 1, then do something about it this week or you could be our next failure.

hey fellas thanks for all your help. i pulled the drive shafts this morning and sure enough the needles bearings on the 2 UJ's next to the transfer case were completely shot. i went and bought new UJ's and rebuilt all the ends and that big cluster on the front shaft. that solved the problem
