Not seeing anything bad here, why did you take it apart?

Coolant level dropping consistently and increasing rate.

Pressure was behavior inconsistent with normal operation. Fluctuations between higher than normal high’s and lower than normal lows.

UV Dye revealed leaks out the back of 8, down the sides of 6, and there was coolant spray evident coming from both heads. Passenger side was worse.

I agree, I am not seeing anything glaring however the Head Gasket at both ends of 7 and 8 seem to he deteriorating and the material was not the same as other parts of it.

So my guess is the HG’s were probably fine a couple years ago with a lower pressure cooling system with multiple leaks and after performing a whole cooling system upgrade, flush, and replacement of components. I mean I had a radiator punctured from the lower cowl screw, my water pump died the first winter, my ac fan was siezed, all hoses and clamps were replaced, I flushed and switched to green, the inline mod was installed, coolant tank was changed to the carrs version 1 the aluminum one, the expansion tank cap crapped out, and then the final leak of the cooling system was the sight glass of the version 1 of the cooling tank. I ever tried running a lower relief cap to mimic a quarter turn off as you suggested.

I took it to a mechanic. This was my first time going to this fella, and he confirmed I was leaking coolant out the back, maybe not a lot but the system wouldn’t hold pressure.

Yep, makes sense. I do see the leak path in the photos of the pass side head now. Do yourself a favor and unclip those oxygen sensor plugs from the block retainers while you have the heads off where they are easier to reach.

Hey Gang,

Just getting my heads cleaned up a bit before going to get decked.

The passenger side has a stamp on it that reads what looks like H 6253 and theres painters mark for a 22.

The driver side has a stamp that isn’t clear to me but it looks like h 9601? Maybe?

Do these stamps come from factory?? I am guessing they don’t, and they are a previous machinist stamp… looks like maybe the height or what was removed?

0.05 mm on the Passenger Side. Maybe greater than 0.05mm possibly.

EDIT: I got a more definitive answer.

Passenger Side feeler gauge starts sticking around 0.003 in (0.08mm). Slides in at 0.0025 in (0.06mm)

Drive Side feeler gauge slides in at 0.003 in (0.08mm)
