04 Disco 2 Starts Then Immediately dies out.
New member looking for some advice. Just bought a nice 04 Disco 2 from the auction. Car starts fine, but then immediately dies out after a second. Scanned it with the Autel Maxisys and got a 27 code for Immobilizer - incorrect code. The alarm activates and deactivates with the key fob, and with the outside door handle via the key. The alarm does not sound, The red light does not flash,. Tried calling the dealer for the EKA, but they said it was too old. No dice. I am confident it is not a mechanical issue, but something to do with the alarm. I have access to other Discos for parts if needed.\But need to know where to begin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ~Dan

That doesn't sound like an immobilizer issue to me, but I am a long way from knowledgeable about them. My understanding is the immobilizer would keep it from even firing, maybe even cranking. I don't doubt you have a code, but on these more primitive EFI systems there are a lot of things that you would think would throw a code that don't. I think a great way to describe early OBDII systems is they help you find why it is running poorly, but often do thing if it won't run at all (or only for a few seconds).
Start->die suggest to me an issue with fuel/air governance during the start cycle. If I were on on a Ford Bronco forum and this were a 5th gen Bronco that would be my bet. However, several disco techs say the IAC in our vehicles is pretty reliable.
If it were me:
I would unplug the mass airflow sensor and try again. Usually a bad MAF car will start and idle, but will die if you give it throttle. Unplugged the ECU gets no MAF signal and goes to open loop. The engine will run on a default RPM based map. If that solves it order a MAF.
Next I would clean the IAC valve well. I just hose them out with carb/EFI cleaner.
If neither of those "easy" button approaches works, then you are just into diagnostics. Check fuel pump voltage, check fuel rail pressure, check spark and coil status, etc.

I had the code 27 immobilizer wrong code after a slow battery drain caused a dead battery. Charged the battery. Engine would crank but no spark or fuel. Also had strange alarm behavior. Final solution was disconnecting the battery for around 10hrs. Everything worked after that. BTW EKA code did not work when it was in this condition.
