stop going to the dealer. bring it to a regular mechanic. the oil pump could be failing.

Default 2004 disc

No i bought the car 2 weeks ago the day after i got home the oil light came on at idol i called land rove and there advice was to drop the oil pan and check the bearings while turning the crank and look in another box to make sure a gear was not broken and check the oil screen all was good buy my local mc. My local mc could not do an pressure test so i took it to land rover and thay said it did have low oil pressure. There advice was to tear down the engine at a cost of $2400 to see what was wrong but also advised that it most likely would need a new engine at $10,0000 .The mc i talked to said i would be better of to just drive it untill it quit and then replaceing the motor instead of doing the teardown so i have been driving it for the last week. The "gear" you mention, is the oil pump.

Yes, there is a pressure relief valve but usally not the case. I have a 04 that did blow up and one of my oil pump gears is broke. There is a kit you can buy ...if... and i mean....if...your cover is not scored up from the gears machining the inside. It usally happens on the 03 but 04 have been having the same problem. i would not drive it as you can completly toast your engine. If you take a stab at fixing now you could save yourself thousands....Who did you buy it from..??? private seller or dealer??
