Default 96 disco, Some Advice Please

EDIT:IT'S A '96 DISCO

Hi guys, I'm looking at a 96 disco thats for sale, only problem is it didn't pass smog, the owner changed out the o2 sensors, after that it still wouldn't pass, so a mechanic told him to change out the ECM, so he bought a rebuilt ECM, installed it, then it wouldn't start. After putting back the original ECM, it still wouldn't start. So now he's trying to get rid of it "as is" for pretty cheap, and it's in good shape. Before all of this, he said it ran perfect. What do you guys think I should do? Easy fix? Would I be getting in deep to get it started again? any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Hi Shadill, (you orig. posted 06 Disco)
First, I'm confused about the year of your "Disco."
Are you talking about an 06 Disco III as they are called in England or what..?

Man, I don't know about that Discovery. It could be something simple...or, it may be more than you want to deal with.
I would wait for the LR experts on the forum like Disco Mike, Spike555, et al chime in with their recommendations/advice.

It wouldnt pass smog because it needs a good tune up, 90% of O2 codes on LR's are due to the need of a tune up.

Depending on the ECU he put it in it may need to be reprogrammed.
You will need the ECU from a '96 or older, you cant put in the ECU for a '98 DI for example.

How much are they asking for this truck?
How many miles on it?

If they're asking cheap enough get it, like said before it more than likely needs a good tune up and it will be good to go. Can you give us any other info on it? Check engine light, mileage, etc..

he's asking $900 with 168,000 miles-white, says only other things wrong with it are the rear windows don't go down, there is a tear in the driver side seat, and it would leak a little gas when topped off, but thats all small stuff. If it use to run fine with the old ecm, I don't see why it wouldn't run when he put it back in, maybe it just blew a fuse? Who knows, it's a gamble, but thats dirt cheap price either way, right?

I forgot to mention, it's been sitting at his mechanics shop for about 8 months, he just wants to cut his losses on it

Tell him $500 and you'll take it off his hands.

The rear windows not working...$15 fix.
Gas tank leaking, filler neck is bad, alittle more money to fix that.
