Default At 124k my power steering pump is squealing like a banshee, best place to buy?

Hi All,

After 3 weeks below 20 degrees, my power steering pump is on its way out. I have known this for awhile, but I can now tell the bearing my go any day. What is the the best place to purchase a new pump? I wont buy one from any of the local auto parts stores, like A-Zone or Advance b/c they are all poor quality. I am also trying to avoid the $300 range for a pump. What has anyone found that is reasonable?

I ended up buying this kit about 12 months ago to rebuild my own pump.
Land Rover Power Steering Pump Seal Kit in Stock Discovery II 99 04 6 Pieces | eBay

And used this video to understand how to do it.

Its honestly not that hard and will save you a pile of money.

Usually the seal that is leaking is the rear man seal and that is the simplest part to replace. I didn't bother to change the front bearing seals as they were not leaking on my pump and rarely are ever leaking on any lr ps pump.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

I have a 29 dollar power steering pump from Kyscrap on eBay that is in its second year. That price included shipping. You never know. I'd rebuild as noted above.

It looks like the rebuild kit is the way to go, but I don't have any leaks with my pump only noise. I did not see the mechanics install a new bearing. Seems like a good idea if your in there. Any idea on the bearing part number. Probably a 3 jaw puller would remove it from that spindle.

Whining is indicative of a leak to come. The sound your hearing is te pump sucking air in and eventually the fluid will start to leak out if it hasn't aleredy.
