Default 180-degree thermostat?

Hi guys -- I ordered a new 180-degree thermostat from Atlantic British, and when it arrived I looked down the throat of it and it's marked "198F" on the internals (see picture).

I called AB and they had me check the part number on the box it came in and confirmed that I did in fact have the correct part.

So my question is, do they have this wrong or does the low-temp thermostat indeed have a "198F" marking on the inside? The brand on the housing says 'MotoRad' and it had a green dot.

Send it back. The product in the box is not what you wanted. This is a known issue and has been happening for a few years.

Yep send that back!! AB should be ashamed of themselves for selling a 92C thermostat!!! Heck even Auto Zone sells a true 180F Motorad thermostat for 33.00...

Do the inline mod, everything else is asking for trouble.

I bought a motorad "180 degree" from AutoZone for $33 and it looked exactly like that. Spoiler alert: It wasn't a 180 degree t-stat. Glad I only wasted $33 on the thing. Ended up doing Extinct's aforementioned inline mod, its 100% the way to go.

The last few I got at auto zone were 180F units, but I verified em before leaving the store.

How did you verify the operation of the thermostats in the store, without putting them in a pot of water and heating it to see the temperature at which the thermostats opened?
